May 2, 1993: Sunday - Today I was speaking with James Leon, an
investigator that Elder Kummer and I had taught a first to earlier last
week on travels. I called back to see how he's doing on his reading, and
if he prayed. Come to find out, he's been reading a chapter every night
since we gave him the book. Before he reads he prays, then he reads, then
he prays when he's done. He said he didn't receive an answer to his
prayer. But then I explained to him what the Holy Ghost is and how it
works. He goes, "Yeah. I feel that inside. I felt that tingly chill run
through my body." Just there on the phone I felt it with him, as I spoke
about the Holy Ghost and its purpose. He said, "Yeah. I'm feeling it
right now." It was a real good experience. It was the first time I've
ever felt the spirit over the phone just talking to someone. I guess that
doesn't stop the spirit. He confirms truth no matter where we are. I was
really grateful for the experience! --Elder Draughon--
Elder Merrill and I were tracting in an area and weren't having much success. We decided to pray to know which way we should go, after the prayer Elder Merrill jokingly said choose the right so we did. At first sight this did not seem like such a good idea because the homes that we were to the right were all large and the people didn't seem too receptive. We continued to tract the street when we knocked on a large home. A lady with a large pink overcoat came out crying she had mascara everywhere and she looked like a wreck. She told us that her Grandmother had just died and that this was extremely hard on her as she was the one that raised her. She told us that she had never really believed in a God but after the death of her grandmother she wanted to believe so badly that she began to pray for the first time in her life. She prayed for the lord to send her someone who could explain where her grandmother was and if she would ever see her again. The moment that she said amen she heard a knock on her
door it was us. she later was baptized and I will never forget the lord literally leading us to this choice spirit! --Elder Caldwell
My companion, Elder Larkin Parrack, and I were Zone Leaders in the Toronto Zone. We were having a Zone Conference at the Stake Centre the morning before April General Conference. We had been hearing a lot the past year about John Taylor and the early leaders of the church and their service in building up the kingdom in Ontario. I wanted to relate that to us as missionaries now in the work we were doing. When I was preparing to print out the program for our conference I drew the CN Tower on the cover. I added angel Moroni blowing his trumpet to the top of the Tower. I thought it looked pretty good considering my amatuer artisic skills. Imagine my feelings and excitement when at the General Conference session, in April of 1984, they announced that a temple would be built in Toronto! We were so excited! The cover of the Zone Conference program is one of my favourite mementos of my mission! --Elder Kirk L. Fausett
For Spanish Missionaries in the Mission, we always seeked out the best experiences in most things and one day I was saying to my comp that sometimes it is not possible to have a "Dam the creek" experience. Well, the Lord knew different.
One sunday before Genereal Conference, my comp and I were at church and a great member of the ward, came up to me and asked if I would like to go with him to pick up a sweet lady for church. I said sure and so we went off to pick her up. She was waiting there all ready to go and got in the car. We brought her to our ward and I was a little surprised to how well she felt. She is a women from Argentina and of some age but just like any grandmother would be.
We talked for awhile and asked her if we could come and visit here and tell her more about the gospel. She agreed and we dropped her off again at home. During the week we tried and tried to get in contact with her but she wasn't answering or something so I decided in my mind that she wasn't interested. I finally tried one last time and she answered. I invited her out to General Conference and explained what it was and she sounded so happy that I was trying to get in contact with her. She apologized and then said yes to coming to Genereal Conference.
Sunday came and my comp had a migrain and so I went to church with the Sister's, (being the D.L) I went with them and we went to pick up Arminda de Bedia. She was so excited and just was beaming of light. Well, we sat thru the first session and then the second session. Afterwards, I went to her and asked her what she had thought of the talks and the entire thing. She started to cry and to explain that this is exactly what she was looking for and that we, as missionaries and the members and instilled in her this desire. I started to cry, and then I heard a voice tell me that I should ask her now to be baptized. She cried even harder and said yes, I said tonight after the sessions, we will prepare your baptism. I phoned my comp, and he was surprised but got himself over to the church where we gave all the discussions in the matter of 2 hours. She had already accepted everything and was so excited. That evening, we baptized Arminda and I knew from the time on, it is so possible to have that "Dam the Creek" experience. Arminda was a testimony builder for me and she became that special Grandma of mine there in the mission. --Elder K. Marshall Anderson
